Minutes of Special Parish Meeting November 5, 2006

Moderator Walter Shivik called the meeting to order at 11:45 A.M.

Article 1
Marie Murphy moved to adopt the Vision Statement recommended by the Vision Committee. The motion was seconded by Linda Tulley. Bill Heenehan began the discussion with a presentation about the visioning process, the results of the review session, and the input received by email. He also briefly explained the mission statement work that would be done at Ferry Beach during the upcoming retreat.

Following this presentation, individual members of the congregation expressed their personal concerns and opinions about the proposed Vision Statement.

Cyd Raschke moved an amendment to the Vision Statement. The motion was seconded by Nathan Wilbur.

Chris Hyde suggested revisions to that amendment and Cyd Raschke concurred. Discussion continued until Bill Heenehan called the question. The motion carried.

Discussion of the revised amendment continued with several further changes suggested. Marie Murphy called the question. The motion carried. The new Vision Statement is:

We, the First Religious Society, Unitarian Universalist, aspire to be a welcoming and inclusive community that encourages spiritual growth as we strive for truth and meaning and serve the social and spiritual needs of our larger community.
Article 2
Cyd Raschke moved to accept the recommendation of the Parish Committee to nominate Peter Cullinan as Trustee to fill the seat vacated by Maura Perkins. There were multiple seconds of that motion. Motion carried.

Article 3
Anne Verret Speck moved to accept the minutes of the Special Meeting of the Parish held March 12, 2006. There were multiple seconds. The motion carried.

Bill Heenehan moved to adjourn. There were multiple seconds. The motion carried. Meeting was adjourned at 12:30 P.M.
