While our own minister and minister emeritus are among the speakers and many of the other speakers will be familiar to FRS members, the forum is an open pulpit and thus will likely include a broad range of views.
The church is on Route 88, just past Applecrest Farms: take Route 95 North to Route 107 East to Route 1 North. Go through Seabrook to Hampton Falls. Turn left on Route 88 at the center of Hampton Falls. Go about 3 miles down Route 88 to the church just past Applecrest on the right. Parking is in the rear of the building.

Flower and Steeple Lighting Dates Available
Providing the flowers at a church service or lighting the steeple for a week are splendid ways to memorialize a family member, friend, or event. Steeple lighting weeks available in 2009 are May 31 and August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Dates open for supplying flowers are November 2, 2008, and May 31, 2009. Lighting the steeple for a week requires a donation of $50.00 to the FRS, and the flowers are usually arranged through Denise's Flowers in Newburyport, though you may, of course, supply your own arrangement if you wish.
To arrange for any of these dates, please call Vicki at (978) 465-0602 x401.
Blessing of the Animals
The first such service at the FRS, on Sunday, June 22, 2008, was attended by 60 or more people with their very well-behaved pets. The loose plate collection raised $175.00, all of which has been donated to Unitarian Universalists for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (UFETA). If you wish to understand both the home-grown splendor and the remarkable power of this service, you should take a look at the pictures on the web at http://gallery.mac.com/parkhere#100466.
Thank you, FRS
From the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center

To: Youth Group First Religious Society
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, I thank you for donating your time and assistance with cleaning the windows in our 2 Harris Street office on April 25, 2008. They are sparkling now!
A safer community. . . one family at a time is our goal and your gift is an investment in our mission to empower members of our community to live free from fear, intimidation, violence, or the threat of abuse by providing support, advocacy and education.
Each week 17 adults and 6 children from our local community walk through our doors needing support, safety plans, and counseling free of charge. Your donation helps us give women and children the opportunity to heal, which requires a commitment from the entire community. You are part of our community and we graciously thank you for being involved.
Together we can continue to offer the resources that alleviate fear, provide safety, and restore hope and independence.
Your support goes directly to providing resources and services for the battered women and children in our communities.
Thank you for playing a critical role in creating a safer community.
Sincerely, Suzanne C. Dubus Executive Director
From Cankatola Tiospaye
June 11, 2008
On behalf of Cankatola Ti Ospaye, I offer heart felt thanks for your kind donation of $712.50. As you know the mission of our organization is to provide Indigenous Elders with the assistance they need to conduct traditional ceremonies and transmit their knowledge and wisdom to the younger generation. Within the last year we were able to purchase a home for Chief Sam Moves Camp, in Grass Creek, South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Sam's home also serves as a ceremonial meeting place for Cankatola Ti Osapye and others who follow this spiritual tradition.
Recently we helped Chief Arvol Looking Horse to repair his vehicle so that he could continue his important work in promoting world peace. Chief Looking Horse received the Temple of Understanding Award from the United Nations in 2006. We were also able to bring a small group of Native Elders to Boulder, Colorado to meet with the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, one of the world's most revered Buddhist teachers.
Your generous gift will go a long way in helping us to help the Native Elders share their message of peace and the sacredness of all life with a world that is greatly in need of spiritual guidance.
With many thanks, Pilamaya yelo, Jim Tolstrup - President - Cankatola Ti Ospaye
From the Hugh Doyle Resource Center
Dear Harold,
On behalf of the Hugh Doyle Resource Center, we would like to thank you for the generous donation of $500.00. As you are well aware, this will help significantly in our mission here to help serve the less fortunate. Your generosity and support are truly appreciated.
Sincerely, Janet R. Hawkes
UU General Assembly
from our Ministerial Intern
I have just returned from the 47th General Assembly (GA), the annual conference of Unitarian Universalists, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My experience was empowering, both personally and professionally as it led to transformation of vision, expansion of hope, and growth of spirit.
To be among thousands of UUs was inspirational because it allowed me to feel my connection to our worldwide progressive faith. We are more than just a small church on the north shore of Massachusetts. We are part of a liberal religion that has strong roots and hopeful visions for our future as a denomination and as a human community. No matter where UUs are from, what they do, who they are, or even how long they have been UUs, there exists a sense of connection between them graced by a common purpose to make this world a more just, peaceful and loving place.
One of the most significant events for me was The Service of the Living Tradition, which honors ministers who serve and have served Unitarian Universalism. I sat in awe and reverence witnessing the service, knowing I am soon to be a part of legacy of religious leaders who have dedicated their lives to our liberal religious faith. Meeting UU's from Canada, Europe, the Philippines, and India helped me realize that our faith exists beyond our borders and gave me hope that Unitarian Universalism is not just a small American denomination.
I am proud to be a UU, and attending GA has turned my inward sense of pride into a desire for outward actions that serve our world. I beckon you to consider attending a future GA. It is always in June, and next year it will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is an opportunity to take part in the democratic process of our denomination, to stretch yourself beyond your personal borders, to worship with thousands of UU's, and to become inspired to serve this world by deepening your faith as a Unitarian Universalist.
Many blessings, Christina
Columbus Day Weekend on Martha's Vineyard?
The Unitarian Universalist Society of Martha's Vineyard invites you to join us over Columbus Day Weekend, October 11-13, 2008. Fall is the best season of all on the Vineyard. Just ask any year-rounder. The crowds are gone, the air is crisp, the water is still plenty warm for a swim. Birdlife is on the move along with the striped bass and the blues. There's no better time to hike and bike our unspoiled trails and backroads. So come on over. We'll put you up with host UU families, treat you to a seafood supper and entertainment, offer an Island tour and welcome you to Sunday service at historic Stevens Chapel. For complete information, see our website at http://www.uusmv.info/bedandbreakfast.html or e-mail us at cdevito@comcast.net.
We'd love to see you on the Island.
