WE ASPIRE to make our church
community even better by reaching out
in service to the wider community and reaching
in to build our own. This is a vision that has emerged from intentional
reflection and much discussion and debate within our congregation. To achieve
our vision of a church that is growing, vibrant and welcoming, we need to
invest now in our staff capacity.
Our Business Administrator, John
Mercer, will retire in June, at the end of our church year. As a lifelong
member of this church, for a decade John has brought intimate church knowledge
and unique skills that we simply can’t replace. An ad hoc group carefully studied the problem, and recommends we hire
two part-time staff: one to handle the necessary business of the church, and
one to focus on membership, leadership, community engagement and
communications. The staff reconfiguration is estimated to add $40,000 to the
budget over last year. Read the committee report here.
The long, sometimes difficult deliberations to determine the
use of the Stern bequest brought out a strong passion to serve the community
outside our walls. While we are not doing nothing already, we’d like to build
our capacity to provide for more community service and philanthropy. This
includes a modest budget allowance for increased community philanthropy of
~$4,000 in 2013-2014.
