How to join the First Religious Society |
|
|
The answer to this question depends on what one means by joining. Some would argue that by coming to a service, you have joined together with the congregation. But to join the First Religious Society officially, involves only your informing the minister that you wish to join and perhaps discussing Unitarian-Universalism with the minister. Several times a year there are new-member Sundays, during which people who are joining the church officially sign a book and receive the spoken welcome and support of the congregation. The actual differences of experience between members and non-members are primarily individual to the person. The only constitutional differences are that a member may vote at official meetings of the church, like the Annual Meeting, and that only members may be officers of the church. You may want to take a look at our constitution to understand these differences. Non-members may serve on any committees whose membership is not voted at the Annual Meeting.
