- Incorporate new handicapped access ramp entrance to front
of church, and new rear entrance to new basement level of church
(as proposed in space needs plan) into a coordinated landscape
design that celebrates the church's 200th anniversary while preserving
the historical integrity of the church structures and site
- In front area of church (including front walk to parish house),
include in landscape design the following components:
- new walk permitting handicapped access to front
vestibule of church;
- a memorial garden celebrating the church's 2OOth's anniversary,
with "peace pole" obelisk, chalice-shaped planting
bed with colorful, welcoming perennials (some with religious
significance) and evergreens to provide year-round structure
and winter interest, and "memorial brick" walk enabling
parishioners to contribute to the work and have bricks dedicated
to the memory of loved ones;
- entry arch for growing climbing roses;
- "memorial" bench seating for the public;
- "Wayside Pulpit" signboard (relocated if necessary,
but still readable from Pleasant Street sidewalk)
- In walkway area between parish hall and church, build a covered
walkway (or install guttering on both buildings) to eliminate
ice buildup in winter
- In rear area of church property, address the following issues:
- redesign and build service area outside of parish
hall to contain garbage cans, or remove them from view;
- incorporate new rear walk and entrance to church basement
level;
- incorporate low walls and entry gate to define space, secure
church property in off hours;
- incorporate play area for Montessori School (existing fenced-in
area may be relocated);
- design an area for private, contemplative sitting, out of
the public eye; (f) design and build a place for children to
plant in
