Guidelines for the Senior Usher

If Roy Tattersall is attending and sitting in the back pew, you need do only the steps for picking up the plate donations. If Roy is not in the back pew, follow all the steps below.

Before the service

  • Be at the church by 10:10.
  • Pick up the red lockable bank bag in the outer office on the first floor of the Parish Hall, where the computer and copier are located. The bag will contain the key to the lock, the key to the Night Depository Box at the bank, and the magnetic key for the bank lobby. If you cannot find the bag or if the keys are not in it, plan to take the money home with you (for the night only) as described below.
  • Unlock cabinet for sound system and pass out hearing devices as needed.
  • During the service

    • Lower lights during the sermon; raise them after the sermon.
    • Oversee operation of the ushers.

    After the service

    • Pick up the collection boxes
    • Sort currency by bill amount: 1.00, 5.00, 10.00, and so forth.
    • Unfold and stack checks.
    • Stack the pledge envelopes.
    • Count the cash and put into the bag a piece of paper with that dollar amount, the date, and your signature.
    • Place all of these proceeds in the bank bag.
    • Remove the keys from the bag.
    • Zip and lock the bag.
    • Return the collection boxes to the front of the church.
    • Take the bag to the Newburyport Bank on State Street.
    • Use the magnetic key to enter and use the third key to deposit the bag into the Night Depository Box.
    • Select a blank envelope from the stack in the Parish Hall office, and write on it "for accountant."
    • Put the three keys in the envelope, seal it, and put it in the box for Kirpas Associates on the wall over the light switch.
    • If anything goes awry with the procedure above, put the plate money, envelopes, and checks in whatever you can, and take it home with you. On Monday, let those in Parish Office know that you have the money and ask how you should proceed.

If you must be absent, please notify the Parish Office (465-00602) or the Head Usher (Jim Dyer - 462-3633).

    Take me home!
