Q&A – May 1, Lower Meeting House Public, 7pm

What will it mean if FRS becomes part of the Sanctuary Church Network? What will be expected of us? What will it say about us as a community? What is the role of churches that do not shelter those in sanctuary but support the churches that do? At this year’s June Annual Meeting, the members of our community will vote whether or not to become a level 2 sanctuary church. We would do this to lend our support, along with other faith organizations in the Newburyport area, to the Main Street Congregational Church in Amesbury which is preparing a space for an undocumented person who is seeking sanctuary. Who chooses to go into sanctuary? What are the legal ramifications? What other actions could we take to support the undocumented persons here in our area and across the country? On May 1 at 7pm in the Lower Meeting House Public, we will have a chance to have these and other questions answered. Deborah Rider from the Main Street Congregational Church will join us to talk about their decision to open their church to those seeking sanctuary and what it would mean for us to join them in this effort. Please join us and share your questions and thoughts on this upcoming choice for our community.
