JAM (Justice Action Ministry)

The purpose of The Justice Action Ministry is to stimulate awareness and action on social issues within the First Religious Society.  We do this in the context of our membership in the greater UU movement and the Unitarian Universalist Association and to bring interactions and interconnections with both.

Tuesday, February 13, 2018 (rescheduled): Fixing Our Broken Democracy. Lower Meeting House, 7pm. Are we losing our democracy? Increasingly the influence of corporate money in our elections and governance, encouraged by court rulings that give corporations the rights of citizens, have raised concerns that our very democracy is imperiled. The UUA has taken this on as a Congregational Study/Action Issue. Join the Justice Action Ministry to learn more. Representatives from “We the People Massachusetts” will give a presentation and workshop, tracing the evolution of corporate citizenship and its effects on our democratic institutions. This will be followed up by a discussion at a future date on how this issue is viewed in relation to our UU principles and what our faith calls us to do.
