Indigenous Peoples Day Observance

To honor our region’s indigenous nations, including Abanaki, Pennacook, Wabanaki, Mi’kmaq and all Native Peoples, past and present.

Schedule of Events:

  • 10-11AM: Opening Ceremonies and Fire Circle: Led by Paul and Denise Pouliot (Head Speakers of the Cowasuck Band of the Pennacook Abenaki) with Oneega Waya White Wolf (Tsalagi Cherokee) and Red Dawn (Mi’kmaq) and intertribal participants; Newburyport Mayor Sean Reardon and Reverend Rebecca Bryan (First Religious Society Unitarian Universalist)

Main Stage:

  • 12:00: Elementary student speakers from River Valley Charter School reflect on Indigenous Peoples Day
  • 12:30: David Detmold (speaking on Indigenous Peoples Day and MA State Seal initiatives)
  • 12:45: Hawk Henries (Chaubunagungamaug band of Nipmuc) – Artist, composer, and flute musician. His transformative performances create contemplative spaces for unity and meaningful reflection on how we each have the capacity to make change in the world. https://hawkhenries.com
