Prayer of Forgiveness

Mar 17, 2019

By Rev. Rebecca Bryan
Let us pray.

Spirit of Life, of love, of goodness, let us remember today that we are all alike and that we are all different.

Let us take this time to set aside judgement of ourselves and each other and ask instead for forgiveness,

forgiveness of our broken promises, our choices that are less than what we desire or wish they would be, choices that we all have,

forgiveness of our judgement of others, for believing, or forgetting, that we too, make mistakes, sometimes big ones,

forgiveness for forgetting that we too can choose every day to fuel our good instincts or our fears, that just like every other person, we have within the potential for evil and for love.

May we be brave enough to stop believing that we are above reproach or below redemption.

May our hearts and our minds be open to the equanimity that comes with  self-understanding, which is to say, being human – guilty, flawed, and scarred – holy, beautiful and deserving of grace.

May it be so. May it be now. May it be.

Amen

Questions to ponder, discuss and hold…

Can you name a blessing in your life that was not a result of your having worked harder?

What activities allow you to experience the gift of surrender?

Is there a situation in your life that might benefit from your letting go, even a bit?
