The purpose of this meditation is not to clear the mind as much as it is to open oneself to the presence of the Divine and invite the action of the Divine within. No previous experience or training is required. This form of Contemplative prayer is a practice in resting in the presence of God through non-thinking surrender and to form a deeper relationship with the Divine. Centering Prayer will be led by Cynthia Tolbert. All are welcome. Please contact Rev. Jane Tuohy at jane.tuohy@frsuu.org or 617-359-0079 if you have questions.

Tuesday, May 5, Sanctuary, 7-8pm. Resting in Prayer and the Presence with Rev. Jane Tuohy and Kristen Miller Is it possible to actually rest in prayer? Is it possible to become intentionally fully present in whatever is going on in our lives? And, with an attitude of openness, reverence, and gratitude, actually rest in presence no matter what turmoil is swirling around us? Rev. Jane will share her understanding of what the commandment to “pray without ceasing” means and how we can cultivate attitudes of openness and receptivity that help us accept reality while turning over worries, concerns, fear, and anxiety to Spirit and staying in a state of equanimity. This service is for those who could use a little rest and want to move away from “fix it” and problem-solving mode into a more spacious and spiritual way of turning our daily trials and hassles into prayer and spiritual learning. Composer and cellist Kristen Miller will accompany Rev. Jane and play some of her own compositions.
