Dear music-loving friends,
During a long and challenging pandemic, we especially need relief from the darkness and grinding New England winter. This relief has ever been the purpose of the Jean C. Wilson Music Series. Given that these will be virtual concerts, we will not be using paper passes. We will have single-concert sign-ups in place of our door contributions, using Eventbrite to manage donations at a suggested level of $15.00 plus a $3.00 Eventbrite charge. A link to buy tickets is below each concert description.
Because of the rapidly changing circumstances, all of the programs are subject to change. All concerts will again be virtual, as in-person gatherings in the FRS Sanctuary have been paused out of an abundance of caution.
We will have four virtual concerts this year:
January 16, 2022, 4:00 p.m. – Nicole Keller, organ – Ms. Keller impressed audiences at an August 2021 concert in Methuen. She will play music of Bach, Sweelinck, Mendelssohn, and others. This will be an excellent demonstration of the church’s splendid 1834 Joseph Alley organ.

January 23, 2022, 4:00 p.m. – Danny Harrington Quartet with special guest Jeff Stout – Yes! Jazz has entered the big room in the best possible way, as will be attested to by those who have heard Danny in his many concerts in and around Newburyport. This concert may find him in a teaching mood, taking a longer look at Jazz from Swing to Bebop to Modal to Fusion. As ever with Danny, the saxophone will be smoking and the other instruments will be on time.

February 13, 2022, 4:00 p.m. – Carduus – This Boston-based group will present a program of early music for voices featuring the Missa fortuna desperata by Josquin des Pres. They will perform Josquin’s extraordinary work alongside Gregorian chants and related motets.

TBD July 2022 – Del Sol Quartet – This will be the Del Sol’s second appearance at The Wilson Series, the first having been in 2018. The quartet will play a single work by Huang Ruo. As Joshua Barone of the New York Times put it, “Delivered with sensitivity and patience by the Del Sol players, the score begins with virtually single-note phrases from the cello and viola, excavations of beauty from the elemental, like the slow movements of late Beethoven quartets. Almost imperceptibly, the music builds in force and complexity . . .” Due to safety concerns, the Del Sol Quartet will perform this summer; a separate announcement will be made with information about this event.
Traditionally our pre-concert sponsors have covered well over half of our expenses. All of these sponsors will have access to all four concerts. Given that these will be virtual concerts, we will not be using paper passes. We will have single-concert sign-ups in place of our door contributions, using Eventbrite to manage donations at a suggested level of $18.00.
We look forward to hosting you — And Your Friends — with us in 2022.
