Tuesday, November 3, Sanctuary, 7-8pm. No livestream. America: Righteous Anger, Pride, and Hope - A Community Contemplative Prayer Service. With Rev. Jane Tuohy. Our regularly scheduled contemplative prayer service will be an open community gathering exploring the theme “America: Righteous Anger, Pride, and Hope.” In these challenging times, many of us are experiencing a complex mix of emotions, including anger, an emotion which many of us have been conditioned not to express. Yet when grounded in our deepest values, righteous anger can become a source of insight, courage, and positive change, and a powerful force for justice, healing, and transformation. Together, we will explore healthy and creative ways to express our righteous anger without becoming caught in the currents of divisiveness, hostility, and “othering” that are contributing to the unraveling of our national unity. We will also make space to reconnect with our pride in being American and to nurture hope for the future of our democracy. Through contemplation, reflection, and shared community, we will honor the emotional complexity of this moment in our nation's history. We will seek to strengthen our connections with one another and renew our shared commitment to a future that is more equitable, just, and sustainable—one that honors our profound interconnection within the web of life. All are welcome to join us for this evening of reflection, expression, and hope. Organized by Rev. Jane Tuohy and Joanna Fernandes, contemplative services will run the length of the church year on the first Tuesday of every month at 7pm. The Tuesday Short Story Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, noon, Lower Meeting House (with a Zoom option available). An opportunity to meet other Parish Friends, ask questions, and brainstorm. If interested in simply learning more about Parish Friends, this would be a great forum. Saturdays, November 21 and 28, LMH Room A, 9:30-11am. Finding Common Ground: Practical Conversation Skills Across Worldviews How can we connect more meaningfully with people whose perspectives differ from our own? In this interactive 90-minute workshop, we will develop and practice conversational skills that help us bridge differences and discover common ground. We will explore how to listen with curiosity, ask questions that deepen understanding, recognize shared values, and respond constructively to disagreement. We will begin with a brief review of key concepts from the updated Introductory Worldview Workshop, then devote most of our time to guided partner and small-group exercises. The emphasis is on practical skills we can apply in everyday conversations—not on persuading others to change their minds, but on creating trust and mutual understanding that make meaningful dialogue possible. Prerequisite: Prior attendance at the Introductory Worldview Workshop is necessary. Contact David Turner, davidyturner@gmail.com, to enroll or for questions. |
